About the opportunity

The Career Starter Program is an 11-month development program targeted at people who have completed a year 12 certificate or equivalent in 2021 or will be completing in 2022 and are looking to transition into working in the Australian Public Service (APS) whilst studying a Certificate IV in Government.

As a Career Starter, you will commence at the APS1 classification where you will work within your agency to apply the skills and knowledge you will learn throughout your development program, in a supportive, inclusive and flexible environment. You will also have opportunities to network with other Career Starters through regular forums. Upon successful completion of the Program, you will advance to the APS2 classification.

The Career Starter Program will recruit for various Australian Government departments and agencies so with one application you will be considered for roles across various government departments or agencies.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Career Starter Program, you must submit a completed application form with your resume before the closing date and time, and:

  • Be an Australian citizen or going to be granted Australian citizenship by November 2022 and be able to provide evidence of this;
  • Provide the required documents and authorisation for the Document Verification System* (Dtor to verify your identity;
  • Have completed your Year 12 Certificate in 2021 or be completing it in 2022;
  • Be able to obtain and maintain the required security clearance level for the role. All staff are required to have a Baseline security clearance before commencement. Depending on the type of work, some roles will require a higher security clearance. If you are offered a role and donโ€™t have a current security clearance, we will work with you to arrange for this to be undertaken.

DVS is a national online system that allows the department to take information from your identity documentation and compare this against the corresponding record held by the document issuing agency. If you are successful in being offered a role, you will be required to provide the relevant documentation to confirm your identity.
